The Dolphins lost to the lowly Tampa Bay Bucs (previously 0-7) last night on Monday Night Football, but the story concerning Miami these days is so much bigger than what’s been happening on the field. Unless you’ve been living under a rock all month, you’re probably aware of the bullying scandal that’s rocking the Dolphins’s locker room right now, and just about everyone with a mouth has given their viewpoint on the situation….
I’ve been watching the story develop since the beginning, here are a few assessments I’ve made:
1. Richie Incognito is an asshole. There’s no two ways around it, the guy is a total dick. He’s the sort of guy who enjoys seeing others in pain, gets a kick out of others’ misfortunes. He’s also been voted the dirtiest player in the league by a panel of his peers. It’s impossible to say he’s been unfairly characterized by these events, because every part of Incognito’s past has been congruent with the way he’s been depicted in the media the last few weeks. He’s been kicked out of multiple schools for disciplinary reasons, he was released by the Rams for unprofessional behavior, and it’s not like he suddenly turned over a new leaf when he arrived in Miami. Richie Incognito is who Richie Incognito is – a bully.
2. Jonathan Martin is literally the biggest little bitch in professional sports. Not only did he fuck his team over by leaving them in the middle of the season, he violated the code of the locker room and threw his entire organization under the bus. Martin had to have known how extreme the fallout would be if he left the team and cited other players’ harassment as the reason why…. I understand that he was treated horribly, and I really do sympathize with him to some degree, but this is professional fucking football we are talking about. There are going to be mean guys who play pro football. There are going to be racists who play pro football. There are going to be bigots who play football. If you can’t handle that, the NFL probably isn’t a suitable career path for you. Former Dolphins RB Ricky Williams put it in the proper context when he said that the NFL life isn’t for everyone. Williams walked away from the game in 2004, leaving money on the table because his heart was not totally in the game. The key difference between Williams and Martin is that Williams didn’t destroy his team when he walked out the door.
3. This entire story has been so over-sensationalized it’s preposterous. I know bullying has become a hot-button topic in America today but the fact that this story has become a national referendum on bullying is just absurd. Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin are both 6 foot, 300 pound adults. This situation is not reflective of any major societal problems, it’s just the story of 1 fucking huge mongoloid who’s a dick and 1 fucking huge mongoloid who is a pussy. Enough said.
4. The New York Football Giants should pickup Incognito. Bastard or not, this guy is a pro-bowl caliber offensive linemen. The Giants’ line has been atrocious this year, and we could use a little attitude up front. Incognito is an honorary black guy for christ’ sake, I’d be happy to have him on my team. 100% serious. Hell, I’d even take a chance on Jonathan Martin. His reputation is so destroyed at this point that I’d imagine 95% of NFL teams would want nothing to do with him. He’s a soft little bitch who fucked over his entire team, and players won’t be inviting him back into the fold anytime soon… Which is exactly why I think he’ll learn his lesson and grow a pair of balls if he ever wants to play in the league again. Put both those guys in blue and the G-men make the playoffs this season, easily…. I’m just sayin’.
